How We Got an Inside Track on the Energy Revolution

After writing and producing professional communications for more than three decades for a wide variety of small companies, nonprofits, and entrepreneurial ventures, I began focusing on the solar energy industry in 2002, when my two-person freelance creative team became the marketing communications arm for AEE Solar in California, one of the nation’s oldest and largest wholesale distributors of renewable energy systems and equipment.
Assessing the Field of Play
In our ongoing work for this major wholesaler, we have written, designed, produced and maintained an ever-expanding corporate website, a comprehensive trade magazine advertising campaign, numerous trade show exhibits, the company’s annual 200+ page catalog featuring thousands of renewable energy products, countless pieces of collateral and other communications.
Performing this in-depth work over a number of years has acquainted us with a broad array of renewable energy products, manufacturers and suppliers. We have been fortunate to gain this familiarity from the wide-ranging perspective of a deeply experienced, highly respected, value-added wholesaler. This front-row education has proved invaluable in understanding the industry and its players.
Off to the Races
Finding ourselves at the right place and time, The Strategic Word grew with the solar boom. In 2006 we decided to fully dedicate our services to the renewable energy/cleantech industry. Since then we have served dozens of renewable energy companies in assignments ranging from one-time consultations with solar dealers and installers to comprehensive communications projects and ongoing account management for major players in the solar industry.
The Strategic Word team has grown to include veteran writers and a talented crew of web designers and graphic artists – all with experience in the renewable energy industry.
